Your Dreams Are Not Too Big. Your Framework Is Too Small.

Lloyd Khiyaza

Let me ask you something.

When was the last time you told someone your real dream, the full, unedited version, not the one you trim down when you don't want to be judged and they responded with genuine enthusiasm?

For most people, that experience is rare. Which is why most people stop sharing their real dreams. And eventually, they stop having them.

Or more accurately, they keep having them, but they carry them quietly. Privately. In the gaps between the busyness of everyday life. Never quite letting them out into the open where someone might tell them they're being unrealistic.

I want to talk about what actually happens to dreams when we do that. And more importantly, what to do instead.

The Editing Starts Early

Most of us didn't arrive at adulthood with small dreams. Watch any group of children and you'll see the full, unfiltered version... I want to be an astronaut, I want to build a city, I want to create something that changes everything.

The editing starts gradually. A well-meaning adult says "that's a bit ambitious, isn't it?" A teacher redirects toward something "more practical." A peer laughs, not cruelly, just thoughtlessly. And the dream gets smaller. A little more contained. A little more shaped by what seems available to someone like you, in a place like this, at a time like now.

By the time most people reach their thirties, the dreams they're still allowing themselves to have are a fraction of the ones they started with.

And here's the thing nobody tells you: that shrinking process doesn't make life easier. It makes it quieter in a way that accumulates into a very specific kind of dissatisfaction, the feeling that something fundamental is missing, even when everything on the surface is fine.

The Wright Brothers Were Laughed At

Here is what I want you to understand about the dreams that feel too big.

They are not a sign of naivety. They are not evidence that you've lost touch with reality. They are, historically, the only mechanism through which reality ever changes.

The Wright Brothers were laughed at. Orville and Wilbur were bicycle mechanics who believed human beings could fly. The scientific consensus of their time said it was impossible. The press called them deluded. And then, on the 17th of December 1903, they flew.

Walt Disney was told by a newspaper editor that he lacked imagination. He went on to build one of the most recognizable creative empires in human history.

Oprah Winfrey was told, by a television producer, that she was unfit to be on television. You know how that turned out.

These are not exceptional stories about exceptional people. They are the standard pattern of how significant things come into existence. Someone has a dream that seems impossible. The people around them say so. They build it anyway.

The dream came first. The proof came after. Every single time.

Kitty Hawk, 17 December 1903.

The proof came after the dream.

What's Actually Too Small

When someone tells you that your dream is too big, what they're usually describing without realizing it is the size of their own framework.

A framework is the internal structure through which you see what's possible. It's made up of your beliefs, your past experiences, your paradigm - the accumulated programming that determines what seems achievable and what seems out of reach.

Someone with a scarcity framework cannot look at an abundance dream and see it as real. Not because the dream is impossible, but because their framework cannot hold it. So they call the dream unrealistic, when what they actually mean is, "I can't see this from where I'm standing."

The same applies to the framework you have for yourself.

If you're trying to build an entrepreneurial life with an employee mindset framework, one that was designed for following instructions, seeking certainty, and exchanging time for money, of course the entrepreneurial dream feels impossible. You're trying to contain something large inside something small.

The framework has to grow first.

This is why most personal development work that focuses only on tactics and strategies produces temporary results at best. You can learn every business strategy in existence and still not build the life you're picturing because the internal framework is still sized for something smaller.

Dream Actualization Starts with the Dream

The Dream Actualization Method - the system at the core of everything I teach starts with one foundational step before any strategy, any income stream, any practical planning.

It starts with giving yourself full permission to dream.

Not the edited version. Not the responsible, sensible, scaled-down version. The real one. The life you'd build if you genuinely believed it was available to you.

This is harder than it sounds. The editing process has been running for long enough that most people have lost access to the full dream. They've convinced themselves that the smaller version is what they actually want when in reality, it's just the version that feels safe to want.

The Dream Vault exercise which I take students through in Step 2 of the Dream Actualization Method is a journaling practice specifically designed to retrieve the unedited dream. No filters. No assessment of whether it's achievable. Just what you actually want, written down in full.

What consistently surprises people who do this exercise is what comes out. Dreams they'd stopped consciously thinking about. Versions of their life that feel both strange and deeply familiar, like something they've always known but stopped allowing themselves to acknowledge.

Those are the ones worth paying attention to.

The Framework Expands Through Action

Here's the practical implication of everything above.

You don't wait until your framework is large enough to hold the dream before you start moving toward it. The framework expands through the process of moving toward the dream. Not before. Through.

Every step you take toward something that feels bigger than your current reality slightly expands what your subconscious mind considers possible. Every time you do the thing that feels too big and survive it or better, discover it wasn't as difficult as you imagined... the framework grows.

The first step doesn't have to be large. It doesn't have to be impressive. It just has to be in the direction of the real dream rather than the edited one.

What's the smallest possible step you could take today toward the life you've been quietly carrying?

Not the full leap. Not the dramatic gesture. The smallest possible step that is genuinely in the right direction.

Where to Start

If you've been reading this and feeling the pull of a dream you've been keeping quiet, here's what I'd suggest.

Start by finding out where you actually are right now. Not where you think you should be, not where you'd like to be but, where you are. The free Dream Reality Assessment at lloyd-k.com/assess-quiz takes three minutes and gives you a personalized picture of your starting point and your recommended next step.

And if you want to go deeper, the Dream Actualization Method starts at lloyd-k.com/offers-programs. The first step is free. Everything builds from there.

Your dream is not too big. The only question is whether you're ready to stop shrinking it to fit the framework you have and start building the framework to fit the dream.

That's what Dream Actualization is. And it starts now.
